MS Journal

The Multiple Sclerosis Journal (MSJ) – the sole official journal of ECTRIMS – is a peer-reviewed international journal that focuses on multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica and other related autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system. Its key series, Controversies in MS, is a series of debates on a wide range of topics.

Journal topics include:

Biologic basis: pathology, myelin biology, the pathophysiology of the blood-brain barrier, axo-glial pathobiology, remyelination, virology and microbiome, immunology, proteomics
Epidemiology and genetics: genetics epigenetics, epidemiologyClinical and neuroimaging: clinical neurology, biomarkers, neuroimaging and clinical outcome measures
Therapeutics and rehabilitation: therapeutics, rehabilitation, psychology, neuroplasticity, neuroprotection, and systematic management

This journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The President of ECTRIMS is co-editor of the Multiple Sclerosis Journal.

Meet the Editor in Chief of the MS Journal

After an extensive recruitment process, Jaume Sastre-Garriga was appointed as the Editor in Chief (EIC) of the MS Journal, effective 1 January 2025. Jaume has already spent many years working on the Journal as both the Controversies Editor and as one of the European Co-Editors, and brings with him a wealth of experience in the research of multiple sclerosis.

This appointment follows the decision by current EIC Alan Thompson to step down from the role after 18 years. Alan has been instrumental in the Journal’s success, and we are sure the whole community joins us in thanking him for his leadership and dedication. Alan will remain a member of the MS Journal Editorial Board.
